Hi, I'm Larissa! I'm a scientist, yoga teacher, birth doula, and fur mom to two of the cutest kittens you'll ever meet (OK, I may be a little biased)! I would describe myself as a career student - I am curious, compassionate, and love to learn. I am always striving to grow as an individual and looking for ways to give back to others and my community. When I am not wearing one of my many hats you could find me cuddled up with a glass of pinot nior and likely reading or watching Harry Potter. I love bad jokes and sarcasm and I embrace my quirkiness.
My love for science began at a very early age. Though I did contemplate other professions growing up, like being a bus driver, my heart always pulled me back to science. I studied biology in college and have been working in the environmental sciences since 2012.
Yoga became a part of my life near the end of my college career. It was one of those things that I didn't expect to like but fell in love with instantaneously. I hadn't realized how much of a toll always being on the go had taken on my body physically & emotionally. It quickly became part of my daily routine and after few years of consistent (well, consistent-"ish") practice I enrolled in my first 200 hour teacher training. I have since completed a 500 hour teaching training and have specialized in Thai body work, Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga, and transformational orthopedic yoga. My teaching philosophy resonates deeply with self-care. Since we live in a society that is always on the go I strongly believe in taking the time to take care of ourselves.
Do you remember TLC's "A Baby Story"? I watched that religiously. Because of that show birth work had been something I admired but I wasn't sure how to pursue. I honestly can't remember the first time I learned what a doula was, but I can tell you it is what I was born to be. Experiencing that moment when the universe shifts and makes space to bring life into this world is nothing short of magical. I am professionally trained and certified through DONA, Stillbirthday, and GentleBirth. My approach to being a doula is strongly influenced by my background in science and yoga - the three disciplines mesh beautifully. I believe in honoring, respecting, and empowering women & their families ensuring they have the best birthing experience possible.
